New recruit Eryn Roberts has joined the Kettering-based Brightkidz team in time to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week.
The 19-year-old, a former Montsaye Academy pupil, knew she didn’t want to go straight to
university after her A Levels and her love for marketing led her down the apprenticeship route. She heard about the Brightkidz opportunity on the Government’s Apprenticeship website and immediately impressed Director, Alison Holland.
“I’m quite creative and really enjoyed my business studies A Level,” said Eryn. “I hadn’t heard of
Brightkidz before starting here but hope to be able to help raise its profile and be part of this
amazing organisation, which is working so hard to promote active travel – which means encouraging
youngsters to walk, cycle to school and learn road safety essentials.
“So far I am leading on the Instagram account, planning social media campaigns and also doing some
admin – helping the team pack up products for mailing. Yesterday I spent the day putting miniature
hi vis jackets on tiny teddies!
“An apprenticeship means I can earn while I still learn and I now aspire to learn as much as I can
about marketing and later do a degree, to challenge myself even more.”
There has never been a better time to employ an apprentice or start an apprenticeship, with
apprenticeships now standing at a record level. There were over 490,000 apprenticeship starts in
2016-17, of which just under a quarter were young people under 19-years-old.
National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from 4th to 8th March 2019, is designed to celebrate and
showcase apprenticeship opportunities across the UK.
Alison Holland, Director of Brightkidz, said: “We are delighted to welcome Eryn to our team. She is
our very first apprentice and we are already huge advocates of this programme. We are delighted to
be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week with our very own talented apprentice in place.”
