Natwest SE100 Award.

Natwest SE100 Award 2019, Top 100 Social Enterprises

Brightkidz has been recognised for it’s work to promote active travel to children by being named the UK’s top 100 social enterprises.

Brightkidz is entering a very exciting year as a social enterprise, as we look to grow our already successful business. This wonderful news could not have come at a better time. To be named in the UK’s top 100 social enterprises is an amazing achievement and shows that we are leading the way for other local businesses like ours – whose profits are ploughed back into the organisation to run important projects that make a real and lasting impact in our community.

Modeshift Contribution to Sustainable Travel- Individual 2018

This was awarded to Alison Holland, Brightwayz Projects and Partnerships Director.

Social Vision Competition.

Social Vision Competition 2010 – Social Enterprise UK

We entered this photograph of children on a local walking bus for the Social Vision calendar competition. This competition was organised by Social Enterprise UK and was a way of highlighting the work of social enterprises in a visual way.

We made it to the final twelve and was used as the ‘January’ shot. This photoshoot was originally commissioned by Awards for All lottery funding for an article profiling our Be Bright Northants project (which they helped fund). We felt it represented what we do in a very eye-catching way. Photographer was Robert Rathbone who kindly allowed us to use this and other images.

Triodos/Eve Magazine Women in Ethical Business Awards.

Triodos/Eve Magazine Women in Ethical Business Awards 2007, Shortlisted Finalist

This award was Ab Fab – literally (all will be explained). The Women in Ethical Business Awards were sponsored by Triodos Bank and Eve magazine as a way of supporting and promoting women’s success in ethical business.

Along with other shortlisted finalists Alison from Brightkidz was invited to a PR training session run by Lynne Franks as part of the prize. Lynne Franks is a long-time friend of Jennifer Saunders and said to be the inspiration behind the eccentric character Edina in TV sit-com Absolutely Fabulous… so an interesting person to meet. She obviously knew a lot more about PR than Edina though!

Impact Road Safety Award .

Impact Road Safety Award 2007, awarded by Northamptonshire Casualty Reduction Partnership

Our ‘Be Bright Northants’ project involved going out to local primary schools and youth organisations to teach about how to be safe and seen using creative activities. We received funding from the Casualty Reduction Partnership as well as Awards for All lottery funding to support this project.

We were pleased to be presented with the Impact Road Safety award for our work on the project as well as the work we had done supporting the local Junior Road Safety Officer launch events. Another night out! This time at Towcester Race Course.

HSBC Start Up Stars Awards.

HSBC Start Up Stars Awards 2005 ‘shortlisted’ and 2006 Midlands regional winner

The national HSBC Startup Stars awards were designed to ‘seek out the most promising businesses in the UK and to recognise the entrepreneurial talents behind their creation’. So we were very pleased to be shortlisted and the following year announced a regional winner. (Certificate shows our legal company name Safe Kids Walking.)

Another chance for a jolly… and this time we were off to Sutton Coldfield for the regional awards presentation and a chance to meet the judges and other contestants.

Pride in Northamptonshire Award.

Pride in Northamptonshire Award 2005 ‘Transforming Our Environment’ Winner

The inspiration behind Brightkidz came when we set up a walking bus scheme at the local school. Through this we met Northamptonshire County Council’s School Travel team and partnered with them to help other schools get started with their own walking buses. We subsequently set up Brightkidz and continued to support road safety and walk to school initiatives and events in the county.

The School Travel team nominated Alison from Brightkidz for this award. We attended an evening reception at the fabulous Wicksteed Park and were thrilled to be announced overall winner of the category. The award was presented by Olympic champion Sally Gunnell and Jane Sheldon from category sponsors Mawsley Machinery.

Barclays/Handbag.com Business Plan Awards.

Barclays/Handbag.com Business Plan Awards 2004, ‘Community’ category winner

We were very excited to have our business plan shortlisted for this national award and to be invited to the awards ceremony in London. The awards were organised by the team at handbag.com – one of the first online lifestyle magazines and websites in the UK and sponsored by Barclays Bank. Entering this award was a good discipline as it gave us a deadline for polishing our business plan!

After fitting in a quick trip to see Fortnum and Mason’s Christmas display, we headed for the ceremony where we were surprised and thrilled to learn we had won the Community category winner. As well as the prizes and trophy, we also received good press coverage of our new business.
